Preface
As our society becomes increasingly
pervaded by information media, both the situation of the art museum
as institution and the context for presentation of works of art are
undergoing a variety of changes. From an emphasis on the preservation,
classification and interpretation of works of art, tasks which define
the conventional museum, we anticipate a shift towards more activist
forms of cultural facilities, with the focus on visitor interaction
and constructive participation. The Symposium will explore the prospects
and problem s of meeting demands for the new and more dynamic cultural
facilities of the future.
