The World of William FORSYTHE

Monday, April 1, 1996

Outline

A workshop led by William FORSYTHE, artistic director of the Ballett Frankfurt. In the first session, a video of FORSYTHE dancing solo was shown. Afterwards, FORSYTHE himself and one of his dancers, Dana CASPERSEN, gave a concrete demonstration of how individual movements are developed from the body itself and the way in which new dances are created. In the second session, FORSYTHE and CASPERSEN were joined by ISOZAKI Arata (architect), TADA Tomio (immunologist), and ASADA Akira (social philosopher) in a panel discussion. The exchange of opinions, from differing standpoints, on ways of thinking about the body, movement, and space brought into relief the ideas that lie behind FORSYTHE’s art.
