Thursday, August 4, 1994

Outline

A report on “Images du Futur” (May 1994, Montreal, Canada), and “Ars Electronica” (June 1994, Linz, Austria). 1994’s “Images du Futur” held a special session on Japan and 22 artists including MORIWAKI participated. The theme of “Ars Electronica’s” fifteenth meeting was “Intelligent Environment.” Jenny HOLZER, Jeffrey SHAW, and Woody VASULKA, among others, exhibited their artworks. IWAI Toshio, who at the time was an artist-in-residence at ZKM (The Center for Art and Media Technology Karlsruhe) in Germany, and Howard RHEINGOLD participated in the presentation session “Life in Net.” After reports on both festivals were given, discussion extended to such topics as how to conduct international exhibitions of media art.

Speakers: MORIOKA Yoshitomo (art critic) and MORIWAKI Hiroyuki (artist)
