“Rediscovery of anima” was inspired by the theory that the concept of animation has been visualized as early as in the paleolithic paintings in the Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave, and by film apparatus of the 19th century. Now what if animation techniques working with natural light had existed in the paleolithic age or the 19th century? This is the idea that inspired Goto to consider the possibility of an alternative, fictional history of film and imagery informed by the desire to “make things appear to be moving.”
