"space-speech-speed" 1998
Mischa KUBALL
The flickering light from three rotating mirror balls animate the installation space. Each has a projector beaming slides of "space", "speech", and "speed" upon it, which then scatters into the space. The letters-as-light mingle and swirl in seeming acceleration. This work deviates from the modern conception of a singular "reflection", static and consistent in extension, instead creating a dynamic space of multipathed reflection in constant motion. The viewer is one of the elements projecting the change, and at the same time receiving it.
Interview with the artist is available in "Voices on LiS."
