On display at this year’s ICC Kids Program are works involving sound that is not only perceived with the ears, but with various other senses, or even with the whole of the body. The experience of these works will surely change something in the way you listen to—or look at—sounds around you in daily life.
This year, the ICC Kids Program focuses on elements that constitute media artwork. One of the characteristics of media art is the combination of various senses that we can see, hear, and feel. Artworks that seem wondrous are often produced by drawing inspiration from our daily activities. The program is designed to help people better understand artwork by finding each element constituting such artworks.
Astonishing works, wondrous works, exciting works, enigmatic works, and those that make one feel like playing with them. Thinking about what exactly their creators may be trying to convey will stimulate your imagination regarding the way artists materialize their ideas in concrete shapes.
Titled “Inspiring Questions—Questioning Inspiration,” this year’s ICC Kids Program focuses on the way children find their own inspirations and questions. The exhibition invites children to experience various displays while thinking and imagining how artists generate from their unique points of view instances of “!” and “?.”
The theme of this year’s ICC Kids Program is to find special ‘scales’ which can dramatically change how we see or understand.
The ICC Kids Program 2010 presents displays of artistic works and devices on various themes related to “sounds” that we are not particularly conscious of in everyday life, such as coordination of sound with sensory perception, relationships between sound and space and the environment, and changes in how we hear.
With the exhibition space itself positioned as a learning medium to help develop the sensitivity to enjoy "learning," the theme of this exhibition is the "creative learning process" whereby participants generate their own ideas and interpretations.
