As two issues that have concerned not just art, but a number of fields such as medicine and science, “the body” and “life” have been important for twentieth-century culture. Especially as we moved into the 90s, new medical concerns surrounding AIDS, brain death, and immunity have made “the body” a critical term in our mode of thinking. This program approached “the body,” a central theme for contemporary art as well, from both artistic and medical perspectives.
Speakers: KOBAYASHI Masahiro (medical anthropologist) and FUSE Hideto (art critic)
