“Striped Sessions (Border Shirtsizer)” [2017]

As sound is a phenomenon in which vibration is transmitted through the air, it is possible to express it also visually in the form of wave patterns. Electrically produced sounds with simple waveforms can be visualized in perfectly striped patterns of colors according to the waveforms’ vertical values. Reversely, one can convert striped patterns into specific sounds. In this work, striped patterns filmed with a video camera are subsequently converted electrically into sounds. The generation of sounds here involves physical action, such as modifying the thickness of the stripes, or moving the video camera closer to or away from them.

* “Border Shirtsizer” is the musical instrument created from “Electronicos Fantasticos!” project.
