“Shitsukan Onomatopeia Map”

Outline

The “Shitsukan Onomatopoeia Map” is a booklet that was made based on interviews with experts on all kinds of materials, with a focus on the question how the vocabulary of ”onomatopoeia” is commonly used to express the myriad textures that surround us in everyday life.

This project was subsidized by the JSPS as part of the 2015-2019 Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, “Innovative ‘SHITSUKAN’ Science and Technology (http://www.shitsukan.jp/ISST/en/index.html) program, with the goal of scientific elucidation and development of innovative technologies related to “shitsukan” (texture) recognition. Within the program, it is part of the ”Shitsukan Information Based on Correspondences of Physics, Perception, and Affective Evaluations” project for which SAKAMOTO Maki, professor at The University of Electro-Communications, functions as Principal Investigator.
