“Our Muse” [2017]

evala

Outline

In the production of “Otocyon megalotis,” which is based on the sounds that were field recorded at his hometown Kyotango located in the northern Kyoto prefecture, evala artificially created the echo and reflection of the space where the sound was recorded. And he composed music by adding movement of sound that involves acoustic changes. 4 pieces were created for the anechoic room in ICC from 2013 to 2014. SUZUKI Akio, a global sound artist deeply related to Kyotango, participated in 2 of the 4 pieces. evala constructed a virtual sound space by recording and composing SUZUKI’s performance of his self-made sound apparatus (glass harmonica and Kugiuchi).

“Our Muse” is a work created anew for the anechoic room in ICC when he participated in the “Open Space 2017: Re-envisioning the Future” exhibition held in 2017. Based on the sounds that were field recorded at an utaki (a sacred spot) in Okinawa’s Taketomi Island, which is an extraordinary space with unique reverberation, he has built a high-dimensional sound experience that feels as if time and space are transforming.
