In a collaboration with shoe designer KUSHINO Masaya in March 2011, Sputniko! created "heels from which mustard seeds are planted in the ground while walking, after which field mustard (nanohana) blossom along the path." Having recognized the potential of field mustard, which absorbs at once radioactive substances and potassium as a soil nutrient, the artist channeled her wishes for recovery and regeneration in Japan after the 2011 earthquake into artistic endeavors revolving around field mustard as a symbol for moving forward with a positive mindset.
In this exhibition, Sputniko! unveils a new video of her latest work "Nanohana Heels," along with study notes and other materials documenting the creation processes of the works "Crowbot Jenny" and "Menstruation Machine - Takashi's Take" respectively.

Sputniko!
Born 1985 in Tokyo. Artist. The daughter of mathematician parents, she graduated from Department of Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science at Imperial College London. Finished the Royal College of Art. Based in London since 2007, she has been producing works incorporating elements of music, devices and video, revolving around such themes as cyborgs, gender and pop culture. Has been getting a lot of attention as a native SNS generation artist who unveils new works on YouTube or gathers project participants via Twitter. Main group exhibitions include "Tokyo Art Meeting – Transformation" (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo), "Talk to Me" (Museum of Modern Art, New York), and "Hyper Archipelago – Light of Silence" (Aomori Museum of Art).
