Guernica is here! A powerful 8K image space

Outline

325-inch (width: 7.2 meters, height: 4.05 meters) 8K high-definition image screening

Housed in the collection of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Spain), Guernica is Picasso's largest work. It is considered a masterpiece of the century, and it has never been taken out of the museum. The powerful, bold, yet exquisite brushwork leaves viewers breathless. What did Picasso have in mind when he painted it? Look at an astonishing image and discover secrets that you wouldn't notice with the naked eye. Experience the depth of Guernica on a large 325-inch 8K monitor that can produce every detail in life-size.

While unable to visit the site due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NHK ventured to shoot an extensive 8K remote image to produce the program.

A crane and rails were brought into the exhibition room where Guernica is displayed, and the filming method was determined while connected online with a local camera crew. The top part of the painting, which is too big to see in detail in the museum, was also filmed using camera work. We were able to get a closer look at what makes Guernica so captivating, a feat only made possible by 8K high-definition video.
