ART+COM / Rhizomatiks Research
Poetics / Structures of Light and Motion

January 14–March 20, 2017

ART+COM / Rhizomatiks Research
Poetics / Structures of Light and Motion

Outline

ART+COM and Rhizomatiks Research have been linking spatial design and entertainment in the realms of media art and commercial work alike, while sharing a similar approach to the social functions of technologies that have become common as a foundation of media art. Realizing projects in interdisciplinary teamwork between members including artists, designers, programmers and product designers from such diverse backgrounds as architecture, mathematics and engineering, and having installed research and development sections for making their own technical developments and updates, and ultimately create new forms of artistic expression, are further common features that both groups share.

Between the careers of ART+COM and Rhizomatiks lies a period of almost two decades. The central members of Rhizomatiks belong to a generation that has accepted, and that has been stimulated and inspired by the numerous previous works of ART+COM. Today, the relationship between both is one of two groups of creators that pay close attention to each other’s activities.

For this exhibition, the characteristic features of the two groups’ works were interpreted as material fusions in real spaces of light, visuals and motion, by way of computer programs. Extracted from there were elements of “light and motion,” which teams from both groups express in their own unique ways in two spectacular large-scale works according to the themes of “poetics” and “structure” respectively.
