“The Sheltering Sky - remodel”

Outline

Listening to the compositions of SAKAMOTO Ryuichi, one begins to perceive the world in an unusual way: not through sight, but through sound. Sakamoto’s music allows us to feel the vibrations of the air, as if we become part of this musical universe. His compositions do not simply change our perception of the world at the moment of listening; they invite us to become the air itself, to feel the world on a more subtle, ephemeral level.

In our audiovisual composition, we explore the language through which SAKAMOTO speaks, using music and visual imagery. We utilized the notes from his composition “The Sheltering Sky” as input data. We developed a set of algorithms that transformed these data into control signals for analog modular synthesizers and input parameters for the algorithms visualizing these sounds. As a result, the entire visual composition is alive in the moment and never repeats in its performance.

Our interaction with SAKAMOTO has profoundly influenced our artistic journey. Each of his compositions leaves an indelible mark in the consciousness, living long in memory, evolving, and engaging in dialogue with our thoughts and feelings. We, as artists, endeavor in our work to reflect these subtle vibrations.

SAKAMOTO’s work carries universal significance, revealing to each listener its depths and a diversity of emotions. His music represents a unique bridge between cultures and eras, making his creativity a priceless legacy for the entire world.
