“Soundtrack” [2016]

HORIO Kanta

“Soundtrack”

Outline

Images projected onto screens show all kinds of daily life utensils suspended from above and moving up and down, along with rotating mirrors and flickering lights. The camera this apparatus was filmed with slowly moves up and down, and swings to the left and right as well. All of these actions produce some sound or other.

For this work, HORIO set up a mechanism in which daily necessaries and other objects behind the screens behave in various ways according to the effects of balance and gravity, which he filmed using a camera that itself is part of that mechanism. Animating certain objects by way of electricity generates light or magnetic force that again cause other objects to move. This causal relationship forms a kinetic chain reaction kind of structure, whereas images of all the things that occur are being projected in real-time.
