Born 1958 in Toyama, SHIBATA graduated from School of Design at Kyusyu University. He has been working as video artist and producing computer based media art. He has been developing Real-Time CG system which sensor light, voice, and sound. He is currently teaching as an associate professor at School of Science and Engineering at Tokyo Denki University.
