Born in Tokyo in 1960. Doctor of science degree from Kyoto University. From his base in evolutionary biology, he conducts research on the history of biology and the relationships between society and science and technology. His theoretical scope, which ranges from the history of science to issues in leading-edge science and technology, is reflected in publications such as Idenshi vs miimu (Gene vs. Meme, Keizaido Shuppan) and Shinkaron to iu kangaekata (The theory of evolution as a way of thought, Kodansha Gendai Shincho).
