ICC Kids Program 2010 "What Sounds Do We Hear?"

What Sounds Can You Hear Coming from a Remote Control or Light Bulb?
Workshop “Let's Go and Find the Sounds of Technology”
KANNO So + YAMAMOTO Yuhei

In the workshop you will make a “Technophone” that enables you to hear the sounds of technology all around you that you normally would not hear. After your “Technophone” is finished, you will take it on an adventure to discover what sounds you can actually hear from electrical appliances in ICC gallery.

Venue: ICC 4F Special Space (around Tokyo Opera City)
Participation fee: 1,500 per pair (for the work kit)
Capacity: 10 pairs (20 participants) per session (advance application required; a lottery will be held in the case that the number of applicants exceeds the places available)
Target participants: Children of upper elementary school age or above (elementary school and junior high school children must be accompanied by an adult)

KANNO So

Born in 1984, KANNO So graduated from the Musashino Art University and the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS). Using electronic engineering and computers, he creates devices for use in musical performancesand other purposes. At Ars Electronica 2009 he was awarded a Digital Music Honorary Mention for his work “Jamming Gear,” a device made of gears that plays music.

YAMAMOTO Yuhei

Born in 1986, YAMAMOTO Yuhei graduated from the Tama Art University and is currently studying at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS). He gained an interest in computers through his DTP work while a student at the Tama Art University and he experiments then produces, experiments then produces, over and over again. He began with research concerning font systems and characters, and he is currently participating in such projects as “Hunter-Gatherer Colorist,” which collects colors from and shares them with its surroundings, and “Technol,ogy Series,” which listens to the sounds of technology in daily life.hich collects colors from and shares them with its surroundings, and 典echnol,ogy Series,which listens to the sounds of technology in daily life.
