"Wooden Mirror"

The "mirror" consists of 830 wooden chips bordered by an octagonal frame made of warm natural rosewood. A motor is attached to each of the chips, and the "mirror" reflects the person standing in front of it by manipulating the play of light on the chips. When the chips move all at once in response to the Image taken by the camera, a resonant yet unobtrusive sound like the rippling of waves on a calm sea reverberates gently in the ear. This is a work which finds a subdued kind of beauty in the organic fusion of rigid objects such as mirrors or computers and materials like naturally-colored wood.
