Pairs of coffee cups sit on top of round, wooden coffee-shop tables
such as can be found almost anywhere. In the dark shadows under each
table, two balls move restlessly about. The ceaseless movement of
the balls and the sounds they produce when they bump into each other
or touch the floor call to mind the murmur of conversation in a coffee
shop. In a space from which all human presence has disappeared, these
vestiges of communication are brought back to life as a memory of
physical sound. This installation has been exhibited at Deitch Projects
in New York.
