"How to make the Earth - OZONE"
SEKIGUCHI Atsuhito
International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS)

"The Making of the Earth - Ozone" is an attempt to reconstruct on the axis of bodily experience the relationship between the Earth as image and ourselves. Viewers work together to operate four elevators to change bird's-eye view of images projected on the floor. Stepping on the elevators gradually raises the vantage point of the viewers as they look down on the ground. Beginning at the level of the exhibition space they move through the floors of the building until they can look down on the city, penetrate the clouds and finally reach the Ozone Layer. Stepping on the four elevators interactively transforms the relation between the viewers and the earth. At the same time, as their bodies tire despite their intentions, the distance between them and the earth begins to disappear.
