Preface

ICC’s NEWSCHOOL9 will offer two workshop series on the themes of computers and reality and reciprocity between information of many different kinds. One will feature the creative group tomato and device artist KUWAKUBO Ryota, the other Amit PITARU and Tetsu KONDO.
The theme of “Reactive/Creative” is a vision of creating something new through multiple creators reacting to each other, as in a chemical reaction. In recent years, with the spread of the Internet and computer environments, we can readily access huge quantities of new information and resources from the past in ways unimaginable in earlier times; today we can communicate with unknown others over our networks. This workshop series searches for a human mode of expression that complexly comprehends the cornucopia of information available in this environment. Planned as pre-events for the Reactivity exhibition that opens in August, symposia, showings of video collections, lounge talks, and other related events will also be held during the workshop period.
