"The Time Machine"
|
|
The movie Time Machine (1960) based on the novel by H.G. Wells and
directed by George Pal, shows a time machine traveling through time
using special effects called "time-lapse" and "claymation."
Bruce was inspired by this scene and created his film installation
work, The Time Machine. Images of a full-bloom flower dying and a
dead flower blooming are each taken with different techniques and
are projected with a 16mm film projector and video projector onto
separate screens, one of which is in the shape of a clock. On each
of the screens, the image of the two flowers are juxtaposed side by
side. Here, Bruce takes up themes such as "time" and "life
and death."
