The rough sparkle of words uttered in the outdoors, not standardized through the education of letters. Make an approach toward the refined sense of hearing of people with no writing system: a drum that communicates words, and the sound of a flute that blows rhythm into your body. Take a breath of Africa's savanna. Communication by raw sound. This work consists of excerpts from non-staged live recordings made by Kawada during a total of 8 years in the savanna villages of West Africa (Ghana, Burkina Faso, etc.) This work combines the performance of the drum called "atumgbaana," used in West Afica for sending messages, with a story of the savanna featuring the song message of walle, performance of the flute called "hiri", used by the Bisa when hunting, and a scene where young girls of the savanna gather on a moonlit night to sing and dance. The atumgbaana is from SansanneMango (the Tchokosi), Republic of Togo, the hiri from Loanga, Burkina Faso, and the rest are from Goode, Burkina Faso. All were recorded by Junzou Kawada. This work is a compilation of excerpts from his cassette book, Universe sonore de la savane (The Savanna's World of Sound).
