A dozen or so men and women sleep on a large carpet. They are video
images, projected by nine ceiling-mounted projectors. As visitors
walk on the carpet and step on the projections, the sleepers squirm
and cry out. Their voices rising from around the room meld together
into a dissonant chorus.
The peculiar interaction with the installation is oddly pleasing,
even fun. Yet the act of stepping on other people and the symbolic
weight of the carpet force us to consider the nature of communication
and power.
