ICC is a milestone—for many reasons, the opening of the center with its remarkable international exhibition in 1997, the groundbreaking activities already many years before, building one of the first large archives of media art and of course by commissioning new works. ICC became an inseparable part of the international success story of media art from Japan.
In particular now with Open Space this series of exhibitions which after almost a decade already reads like a seminal history book of media art not only from Japan but from all over the world.
It always showed the stars but also gave plenty of space for new talents to develop their ideas but also to be discovered by the international media art community.
Therefore it doesn’t come as a surprise that many artists and projects which have been exhibited at Open Space also found their way to the Ars Electronica Festival or won important prices at the Prix Ars Electronica And quite often it was Open Space at ICC where I first got in contact with these artists or where I had the opportunity to see their new works and got excited about it.
So congratulations to the people behind Open Space and I am looking forward to get many more exiting inspirations from you.
