Fukuhara and Tremmel formed the art venture entitled Biopresence in the UK in 2004. The project (to be launched soon) will preserve human genetic material in trees, as living memorials,* thus broadly calling into question the many issues that contemporary society is confronting as a result of the advances in biotechnology.
*Living memorials: In this project, DNA is extracted from humans and coded using the DNA manifold algorithm (changing only the base sequences but not in a way that would cause changes in the tree life-form itself), to preserve it within the tree.
