The library building is the work of Ryoji SUZUKI. It features L-shaped
("L" stands for Library) halls or aisles that are supported
by thin columns. The long floor rises towards the back, then drops
onto the short floor. The space is barely large enough for a person
to crawl through. As the ceiling (roof) is horizontal while the floor
rises, the space underneath the floor is higher towards the back.
Therefore, if a person manages to craw through the opening to the
short hall and reaches the entrance to the long hall through the pillars
under the floor, he would have the same physical experience. Inside
becomes outside and outside becomes inside. It is a Klein bottle or
what Jacques Lacan calls a structure of the self.
