"ClearBoard-1 "
Minoru Kobayashi (NTT) Ishii Hiroshi

The design goal of ClearBoard is the seamless integration of interpersonal space, in which one can speak face to face with a remote interlocutor, and the shared workspace, in which activities can be conducted collaboratively. In order to realize this goal we came up with a simple concept: people speaking to each other through a glass wall while drawing on both sides of it. ClearBoard-1 combines video drawing technology that allows simultaneous drawing on a common white board without a computer and a video conferencing function that allows face to face conversation. This system was presented at CHI 92 and CSCW 92 as well as being exhibited at NTT's exhibition space in Kasumigaseki.
