ICC
ICC Kids Program 2008
handcraft workshop Participants will gain a basic knowledge of cams, gears, mechanical linkage and other machine elements, and try to make new forms. After creating some simple mechanisms, we will attempt to develop more complex mechanical motions. Fabrication is done with handicraft materials including styrofoam board and does not require previous machining experience. Cam: A cam is a rotating wheel with a projecting part that moves a follower in contact with its peripheral.
Gear: A gear is a component that transmits rotation to another gear.
Mechanical Linkage: A mechanical linkage is a system of rigid links connected together to transmit movement.
*"Kikai-no-Moto (Machine Elements) "
This workshop takes its name from the seminal 1912 publication "Kikai no Moto" by ASAKAWA Gonpachi, a well-known collection of knowledge about mechanisms. It is currently in release as a revised edition (Rikogaku-sha, 1983), edited by ITO Shigeru, under the name "The Dictionary of Mechanisms."
