Since becoming director of the
Ballett Frankfurt in 1984, William Forsythe has continuously pursued
his aim of "dance imbued with spirit and energy." This will
be his fifth visit to Japan. This time he brings a has come to Japan
ith new production. In his new work "Eidos:Telos" Forsythe's
ballet brings into being "a certain realized world." This
"binary ballistic ballet," also known as the
"alphabetical dance system," is advocated by Michael Saup,
a professor of computer art at Berlin College of Plastic Arts. It
is a new technique which attempt to express bodily movement using
computer technology. Making active use of video, computer and other
electronic technologies that are now developing daily, Forsythe has
succeeded in creating the grand vision out of "Eidos:Telos,"
a perpetual theme ever since mankind first embarked upon his quest
for knowledge.
At this ICC workshop to be held in advance of Ballet Frankfurt's scheduled
performances of "Eidos:Telos" in Tokyo, the presenter Akira
Asada and other guests will examine Forsythe's artistic world from
various viewpoints. |
