- "The Lionhearted," a conservative newspaper, depicting a female columnist
at "The Daily Collegian," the campus paper, in a bikini. In the cartoon,
she sits on a bed whose headboard reads, "Feminist at Work."
- Description of incident
- Early in April, 1993 three women stopped outside the student union
building at Pennsylvania State University and began throwing thousands of
copies of a conservative student-run newspaper into their car. Before
the end of the month, newspaper thieves struck not only at Penn State,
but also at the University of Pennsylvania and Dartmouth College.
- Results of incident
- The stolen newspapers created a debate on campus over the legitimacy of
stealing as a form of speech. The two identified women were charged with
theft and received probationary statuses.
