Biography

Hattori, was born in 1951 and joined the Asahi Shimbun (newspaper), at which he is still employed, thereafter upon graduation from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Waseda University in 1978. Between 1987 and 1989 he was a fellow at MIT Media Laboratory and studied the U.S. media industry. In 1989, he became the science reporter in charge of computers and telecommunications for the newspaper and served as assistant editor of Computer magazine from 1991-1993. In 1994, returning to the science section, he planned with the publishing department the publication of "Doors", a new magazine for the digital age. As a member of the digital publishing department's editorial committee, he worked on "Doors" in 1995 and 1996. After "Doors" stopped publication in 1997, he became a member of the publishing department editorial committee. In 1998, he became editor-in-chief of "Paso".
