Symposium & Lounge concert "ICC | SIG_SOUND"

Today, we are facing a new, diverse musical situation in which digital tools for creation are more accessible than ever in addition to the expansion of the Network. In this digital topology, a more perceptive and physical ways of approaching music seem to be sought. To build upon this context, ICC holds an event entitled [SIG_SOUND] that will consist of a symposium and a live performance gathering the cutting-edge researchers and artists in the field of digital sound/music. The word [SIG=Special Interest Group] usually refers to a professional conference for a specialized topic; however, ICC SIG_SOUND aspires to become a more diverse and interdisciplinary gathering of people sharing a common interest in computer music, both from artistic and scientific points of view.

From France, we invite Géard ASSAYAG, a researcher in Musical Representation Group from IRCAM, the artist/researcher Atau TANAKA from the Sony Computer Science Laboratory Paris, and the contemporary artist Mathieu BRIAND whose work is also featured in the present ICC exhibition [Reactivity: Unpredictable Past]. From Japan, we invite 3 educators in the field of digital music: Akihiro KUBOTA (Tama Art University), Christophe CHARLES (Musashino Art University) and Masahiro MIWA (IAMAS).

In the Symposium, each panelist will present their most recent projects and interests related to the digital sound performance putting stress on artistic and technological aspects, and discussions with other participants and the audience will follow. In the Lounge Performance, the audience will experience the actual musical concretization of the panelists themselves while having some drinks at the ICC cafe.
