Where are Media and Art Heading?

Date: April 20th Sunday 16:30 - 18:30
Venue: Tokyo Opera City, B1 Recital Hall

Panelists: TOWATA Masayuki, MATSUMOTO Yasuaki, Dumb Type(TAKATANI Shiro, TOMARI Hiromasa), Monika FLEISCHMANN
Moderator: ASADA Akira

Taking the activities of the two groups - Masayuki TOWATA + Yasuaki MATSUMOTO and Dumb Type - who cutting across various spheres, have critically articulated contemporary modes of embodied sense that straddle the limit between death and media, we will investigate the ways in which media and art has maintained a conflictual relationship. Then we will investigate how they will transform in the future.
The expressions of these two groups are known to be filled with provocative and primordial ideas; diffusion and solitude, emergence and disappearance, language and silence, love and death, transcendence and transgression. What modes of expression are we searching for as our bodies are cut across by advanced technology and media?
We will look at the present and the future of art with Monika FLEISCHMANN who is a founding member of Art+Com, the group that has fused media technology and art research.
