KOP

Profile

KOP (launched by Shu Lea Cheang, Armin Medosch, Yukiko Shikata in 2001) is conceived as an experimental online floating work space that explores the free sharing of digital content - often condemned as piracy - as the net's ultimate art form. The originally sponsored project by Taiwan Acer Corporation's Digital Arts Center premiered at Ars Electronica 2002. Claiming itself as a floating kingdom adrift in the codified open source / open sea, KOP dropped its anchor at ISEA2002 (Nagoya), DEAF2003 (V2, Rotterdam) with "LOG" project and at FACT, Liverpool, UK in 2003 with a new commission "BURN" and a booklet publication "DIVE", and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (Game Scene, San Francisco, 2004). KOP continues its participatory practices with its commons edition in 2004-2005.
