Under the slogan, "computing and Internet for the majority of the world", founders Frederick Noronha (India) and Partha Pratim Sarker (Bangladesh) tackle on the Bytes for all Website and in their newsletter the problem of the digital divide in South Asia.

Initiated by Lawrence Lessig, a jurist who has been investigating into ways of knowledge sharing within digital environments, Creative Commons promote a flexible, international copyright system in which individuals can declare ways of usage and distribution of their own creations.

A community of "people doing strange things with electricity" established by Columbia University lecturer Douglas Repetto. The geeky network of individuals creating objects (one may call "works" or "products") out of cheap materials keeps expanding, and currently spans more than 20 cities around the world.

Based in San Francisco, EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) is a group of knowledgeable scientists, technicians and volunteers aiming at ways of knowledge sharing while maintaining individual rights in digital environments. CC mastermind Lawrence Lessig is also involved.
