The shelves on which TouchCounters are mounted have a digital memory. Every time someone removes one of the boxes from the shelves and accesses its contents (carpentry tools, parts for electronic devices, etc.) it is counted and the frequency of access is represented graphically on a bright LED display. Tracking the usage of tools and supplies in a workshop gives the user hints as to what kind of work is being done, which boxes need to be refilled, and what the most convenient arrangement of boxes would be.
